Suburb Profiles -   Castle Hill

1.jpg
Castle Hill, the administrative centre of the Hills Shire, is located 30.1 kilometres north-west of the Sydney GPO.

The first free settler in Castle Hill, a Frenchman named Baron Verincourt de Clambe, in unusual circumstances received a grant of 200 acres in 1802. It has been suggested that the suburb got its name as locals of the time commonly referred to de Clambe's house ("The Hermitage") as "The Castle" because of the Baron's noble status.

Nowadays, Castle Hill is the retail hub of the Hill’s District with Castle Towers offering over 300 stores and with development applications to extend its capacity and potentially make it the largest shopping centre in New South Wales. The suburb is also a popular residential address, recently claiming the highest number of sales for more than $1 million in the past year across the country.

With the development of the North West Rail Link eventually connecting Castle Hill to the city in 35 minutes, Castle Hill is certainly a suburb on the move!
